so the question is.. is linguistic knowledge innate or is accquired soley thru experience? well my noam chomsky certainly thot that linguistic knowledge is partly innate and the rest of it came from experience. and he certainly didn't change his stance since the 1960s... and he's 70 plus already... what's my pt of view? is lingusitic knowledge innate? yes i suppose.. well i mean the human brain is still for the large part unchartered territory but still.. in that vast expanse of grey matter, i'm sure that prior linguistic knowledge has already been computed in. how else wld a baby know how to make sounds that eventually turn into words? how wld we have progressed from using only sounds to one word, then two words, then multiple word utterances? but perhaps, if we really think abt it.. we cld prob justify as accuqired thru experience. and i contradict myself. okay... my stand.. linguistic knowledge is partly innate.. but linguistic competence comes with experience. okie i just expanded my brain juices for the day.. with that i shall retire to my nice comfy bed in my rented room of the rented apartment in perth... bleah... miss home...
